About John Bradberry of Charlotte, NC
The biggest Tar Heel fan you will ever come across is perhaps John Bradberry. From Charlotte, NC, John considers himself a Tar Heel through and through, especially since after being accepted at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. For John, no other university in the state comes close to the prestige and honor of being an alumnus of UNC, the nation’s first public university and one of the few public Ivies in the country.
UNC has always been John’s dream school, not only because his parents are alumni of the prestigious Kenan-Flagler Business School, but because he has been an avid fan of the North Carolina Tar Heels men’s basketball team for as long as he can remember. In fact, he can still vividly recall the Tar Heels championship season in 2008-2009, when Wayne Ellington, Danny Green, Ty Lawson, and Tyler Hansbrough clobbered Villanova, Michigan State, Oklahoma, and Gonzaga to win the school’s fifth NCAA National Title—each game was nothing but glorious.
Now as an “official” Tar Heel in every sense of the word, John is excited about catching the games live and the school’s prospects of bagging another championship in the NCAA. Currently, his favorite players are Justin Jackson, Joel Barry II, and Kennedy Meeks.
John graduated from Ardrey Kell High School as part of the school’s marching band and debate club. He is passionate about competitive debate as he believes it’s a great way for one to learn how to listen and engage others who may have opposing views and opinions. As early as his high school days, John has already been writing about sports; at Ardrey Kell High School, he helped cover the women’s volleyball team and the men’s baseball team’s games where he had the opportunity to hone his writing skills.
As a sociology student at UNC, John hopes to become a lawyer one day, but his other interests like teaching and community development might just lead him onto a different career path. For now, John would just like to make the most out of his time at UNC, meeting new people and learning more about his likes and dislikes.
Having recently survived his first year at his dream school—which he thinks is an achievement all by itself—John would like to document his college experiences moving forward in this blog. He hopes that his writings will help guide future UNC students, specifically freshmen who haven’t yet adjusted to the rhythm and life in university. He also hopes to meet other like-minded people here, including hardcore Tar Heels fans like himself.
When he isn’t busy hitting the books or out partying with friends, John likes to spend his free time watching reruns of his favorite TV shows like Friends, The Big Bang Theory, Breaking Bad, and House of Cards on his laptop. Of course, he also watches clips of the Tar Heels men’s basketball team on YouTube.
Secretly, he hopes that you’ll subscribe to his sports blog and hang out with him at Franklin Street.
